Pattern appoints David Jennison to lead European growth
Pattern has appointed David Jennison as Managing Director, Europe, adding a former Amazon leader and eCommerce adviser to its regional management team as it targets growth across European online marketplaces.
Jennison will oversee Pattern's operations and expansion in Europe. Pattern works with consumer brands that sell through third-party eCommerce platforms, including Amazon and newer channels such as TikTok Shop.
Based in London, Jennison has more than 15 years of experience driving eCommerce expansion across the UK and Europe. He has held senior roles at Amazon, led international growth at a venture-backed, AI-focused logistics business, and founded an eCommerce consultancy, which he later exited after working with retail brands selling across European marketplaces.
Pattern positions itself as a service provider for brands seeking to improve performance on major digital marketplaces. Its offering includes advertising management, content and catalogue optimisation, pricing, fulfilment, forecasting, and customer service.
European remit
In his new role, Jennison will lead Pattern's European growth agenda, with a focus on building the regional team and working with multinational brands that sell across multiple marketplaces.
The appointment comes as marketplaces expand the tools and levers available to sellers, increasing the complexity of day-to-day management. Brands now face more moving parts across content, promotions, inventory availability, and customer experience, alongside faster changes in how platforms rank products and allocate ad inventory.
Pattern says it uses proprietary technology, data, and machine learning to manage and automate elements of marketplace selling. It says its systems draw on more than 46 trillion data points and that it operates across more than 60 marketplaces globally, including Amazon, Walmart.com, Target.com, eBay, Tmall, JD, and Mercado Libre.
Demand for third-party marketplace services has grown as brands seek specialist expertise in platform rules, performance marketing, and cross-border selling. Many consumer groups now treat marketplaces as a primary route to customers rather than a secondary channel, increasing scrutiny on profitability, stock discipline, and the cost of customer acquisition through paid media.
AI focus
The announcement comes amid a wider push by eCommerce and advertising businesses to incorporate AI into planning and execution. Marketplace operators are adding AI features to seller tools and ad platforms, while agencies and technology vendors pitch AI-led optimisation for bidding, creative testing, and demand forecasting.
Brett Bardsley, Pattern's Chief International Officer, said the appointment supports the company's regional plans.
"David's appointment represents a significant step forward in our mission to drive high-performance growth for brands across Europe," Bardsley said. "He brings a proven track record for driving measurable performance, alongside impressive experience scaling eCommerce and technology ventures, and turning emerging technologies like AI into measurable commercial impact. We couldn't be more excited to welcome him."
Jennison said brands are navigating rapid shifts in the sector, including changes linked to AI.
"I'm thrilled to be joining Pattern as the business leads the next wave of eCommerce innovation," Jennison said. "Brands are operating in a rapidly evolving landscape, with AI now driving major shifts in consumer behaviour, operational efficiency, and growth strategy. Pattern is at the forefront of helping businesses harness these advancements, turning technology into a real competitive advantage. I'm eager to bring my experience to our European clients and help them seize the opportunities ahead."
Pattern works with hundreds of brands, selling services and software focused on marketplace operations. It has built its business around the view that scale and data can improve marketplace outcomes, particularly for brands operating across multiple countries and platforms.
Jennison's Amazon experience is likely to be relevant in Europe, where Amazon continues to expand logistics options for sellers and increase the role of advertising in product discovery. Brands are also weighing investment across channels as social commerce grows and retailers expand their own marketplace models.
Jennison will work with global brands across Europe as Pattern expands its regional footprint and adds staff.
