Sage has introduced new enhancements to its Sage X3 business management software for manufacturers and distributors, adding artificial intelligence tools and other operational features.

The update includes AI functions within existing workflows, a Sage-managed software-as-a-service version of Sage X3, AI-powered e-invoicing in France, and production visibility tools delivered through Lynq, one of Sage's partners.

The changes are aimed at businesses that handle large volumes of data across inventory, purchasing, production, finance and supply chains but struggle to turn that information into timely action. They are intended to give users more visibility across operations, reduce manual work and support decision-making in complex environments.

One part of the update centres on Sage Copilot, which can help teams identify risks and opportunities earlier and surface operational insights across sales, finance, inventory and operations. The tools sit within existing workflows and are designed to keep users in control of approvals, decisions and actions.

Product changes

The Sage X3 SaaS offering is now available in the UK and US. The managed cloud model is intended to reduce the burden of infrastructure management, software updates and security administration for customers.

Another change is AI-powered e-invoicing for customers in France, where the feature is now generally available. The tool is designed to reduce manual processing, improve accuracy and help businesses prepare for changing compliance requirements through digital workflows.

For manufacturers, Sage has added enhanced production visibility through Lynq. The feature is available in the US, Canada, South Africa, Australia and the UK, and is intended to help users improve visibility across production, make better use of resources and respond to changes in demand and operational requirements.

Sage has also rolled out broader platform enhancements globally, covering performance, security, user experience and extensibility.

Focus on trust

The announcement comes as software suppliers try to persuade business customers that AI systems can be useful in operational settings without reducing oversight. Sage said its approach in Sage X3 is based on transparency, explainability and control, with AI intended to support human decision-making rather than replace it.

Rob Sinfield, Senior Vice-President of ERP at Sage, set out the company's position.

"Manufacturers and distributors are operating in increasingly complex environments where decisions need to be made quickly," said Rob Sinfield, SVP of ERP at Sage. "While businesses are rapidly embracing AI, many still need greater confidence in the insights it provides. By embedding AI and operational intelligence directly into Sage X3, we're helping customers identify risks earlier, improve planning and make better decisions while maintaining the visibility and control they need to run their operations."

Sage X3 is aimed at manufacturers, distributors and larger organisations that manage operations spanning finance, inventory, purchasing, production, sales and supply chains. The latest update reflects a broader push by software companies to tie AI tools more closely to day-to-day business systems rather than offer them as separate applications.

That matters particularly in manufacturing and distribution, where users often need to combine operational and financial data quickly when dealing with supply chain disruption, changing demand, production bottlenecks or compliance shifts. In those settings, software vendors have increasingly emphasised auditability and user oversight alongside automation.

Seth Ellertson, Chief Revenue Officer at Net at Work, one of Sage's partners, said the approach stood out because it placed AI inside software customers already use.

"I'm really excited about what Sage X3 is doing to embed AI into complex processes, making it simpler so that organizations can scale faster," said Seth Ellertson, CRO at Net at Work. "What stands out about Sage's approach is the focus on embedding intelligence directly into the workflows organizations already rely on every day. By combining trusted AI with deep operational capabilities, Sage is helping manufacturers and distributors make more informed decisions and adapt more quickly to change."
