Pocket FM has partnered with OpenAI to integrate OpenAI tools across its content creation and production workflows for its global creator network.
It will deploy OpenAI's application programming interfaces (APIs) across multiple parts of its content creation ecosystem, aiming to strengthen production infrastructure for more than 300,000 creators worldwide.
Pocket FM operates an app-based platform for episodic audio series and runs a creator marketplace where writers and producers publish stories for listeners in multiple markets. The service measures consumption in time spent listening and reports more than 12 billion minutes of monthly listening.
AI in production
The partnership follows Pocket FM's shift to generative AI in its production stack. It rebuilt its content creation systems around generative AI in 2023.
The company says this has driven growth in what it calls AI-native audio series, and that the platform now hosts more than 100,000 such titles.
AI-driven series are the platform's fastest-growing segment, Pocket FM says, expanding at an average rate of about 30% month on month.
OpenAI's tools will be used within Pocket FM's production process, focusing on steps between writing, localisation and audio output. The companies did not say which OpenAI models will be used or how the tools will be made available to creators within Pocket FM's interfaces.
Pocket FM described the partnership as part of a broader push to improve creator tooling and scale content output, using AI to increase production speed and consistency across markets.
"At Pocket FM, AI is foundational to everything we do. Our collaboration with OpenAI takes our AI vision to a new level. By combining OpenAI's APIs with our deep content infrastructure and creator ecosystem, we are building something the world has not seen before: an entertainment platform where a single creator in any corner of the world can produce, publish, and reach millions of listeners globally, with the quality and consistency of a full production studio. This is what the democratisation of storytelling truly looks like." said Prateek Dixit, Cofounder - Product, Tech and AI, Pocket FM
Localisation focus
A key use case is language support. Pocket FM says it will use OpenAI's multilingual and translation features as part of its localisation work.
It expects the integration to strengthen global localisation efforts and expand the reach of creator-led titles into international markets, with more series reaching audiences outside their original language markets.
OpenAI described the deal as an example of AI being applied to consumer entertainment creation and distribution, highlighting localisation and faster production as central aims.
"Pocket FM is demonstrating how AI can help creators scale storytelling for global audiences. Our collaboration brings OpenAI's technology into their creator ecosystem to support faster content creation, localisation, and distribution. This is a compelling example of how AI can expand creative opportunity, while keeping human creativity at the core." said Oliver Jay, Managing Director - International, OpenAI.
Creator ecosystem
Pocket FM's pitch rests on the scale of its creator base and the potential for a common toolset across formats and languages. More than 300,000 creators use the platform to write, produce and publish audio series, it says.
The partnership reflects a broader trend among media platforms investing in AI tools to shorten production cycles. In audio, that often includes script development, translation, voice workflows and editing. Pocket FM did not say how it will govern creators' use of the new AI tools or how it will label AI-generated elements for listeners.
Commercial terms were not disclosed, and Pocket FM has not said whether the integration will affect creator compensation, publishing criteria, or how titles are promoted in the app. It also did not specify when creators will see the OpenAI-based features in their workflows.
Pocket FM says the OpenAI integration will span multiple workstreams in its production environment, with multilingual creation and localisation central to its international expansion plans.
